[edit] History
Atlas-Weyhausen is the product of Hinrich Weyhausen, a trading agricultural company that was formed in 1919. It was based in Wildehausen, Germany and was originally called Hinrich Weyhausen KG. Weyhausen did not start producing agricultural machines until two years later.
Hinrick started manufacturing machines in 1936, producing its first hydraulic crane in 1945 and the first hydraulic excavator in 1950.
Weyhausen name was changed to Atlas Weyhausen GmbH in 1986, with the name “Atlas” being associated with innovation and quality.
In 2001, Atlas Weyhausen, the now Delmonhorst, Germany-based company was acquired by Terex and changed its name to Atlas-Terex in the following year.[1]
Before the acquisition of Atlas Weyhausen, the German manufacturing company had revenue of approximately $180 million in 2001. Terex acquired Atlas because of its extensive lines of wheeled excavators and truck mounted Articulated cranes.[2]
[edit] Equipment and Projects
Jewson, a building material supplier located in Great Britain, ordered 400 Terex-Atlas loader cranes in November 2006. The order was said to have cost up to millions of pounds sterling for the 120 2E/A2 type cranes. The cranes ordered came with double extension units: a Kinshofer brick grab and a Hetronic remote control.
The company has stated that the 2E/A2 cranes are its best-selling models, with more than 200 delivered in the first year alone.[3]
John Wade Group, a U.K.-based company, also sought out wheel loaders from Atlas Terex for its recycling facility in Ayceliffe. The Atlas 1705MI was configured as a 1705 mobile excavator that featured an elevating cab with the controls of an Atlas MI handling machine.
The 1705MI was developed for its compactness and ability to work efficiently within the narrow confines of the facility. It combined the lifting efficiency of an excavator with beneficial features that allowed it to load and even dig. The model featured a generator and the option of other hydraulic attachments.[4]
[edit] The Company Today
Atlas Terex is a part of the Terex Group and continues to manufacture and produce cranes, hydraulic excavators, and wheel loaders. The past few years have seen Terex acquire the controlling interest of TATRA and Noble CE.
