[edit] History
[edit] Name and Ownership
Burch Farm Implements Inc. is the direct descendent of the Blount Plow Works, which dates back to 1867. [2] The name was changed from Blount to Burch when the company found ownership through new management and past family members in 1927. [3]
[edit] Product Developments
The introduction of the “Twin-Row” planter to Burch’s product line put into practice a modern concept of planting, also known as “Narrow” or “Close Row” planting. In 1965 Burch conducted some research into this method at the Georgia Costal Plains Experiment station at Tifton, Georgia before implementing it into its product development. [4]
The main products being manufactured by Burch are disk harrows and seed planters. The disk harrow line includes machines with sizes from five to 36 feet (1.5 to 11 m) in width. These include lift, offset, and tandem models. [5] The seed planters can not only be manufactured for single and twin row planting, but may be bar-mounted in multiple units. [6]
[edit] The Company Today
More than 70 years after the company's name change, Burch remains a family-operated enterprise.[7] Its current president is Jim Burch. [8]
