Caterpillar 143H Motor Grader
From RitchieWiki
[edit] Features
The 143H has a 3306 turbocharged engine with variable horsepower of 150 to 185 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It has an eight speeds forward, six reverse direct drive powershift transmission with electronic control. It comes standard with hydraulically driven front wheels, all-wheel drive (AWD), a PPPC hydraulic system, integrated engine compartment doors, and an optional contour seat. Its blade position and operator station have been modified.
The 143H was given a 1AL serial number prefix.
[edit] Modifications
In 1996 Caterpillar made an emission-regulated engine standard, beginning with 1AL00106. Extended life coolant was added, beginning with 1AL00214.
In 1997 Cat added radiator cleanout access covers and new battery boxes, modified the fuel-sending unit, and adjusted the drawbar to improve visibility, beginning with 1AL00302. Cat also added scheduled oil sampling ports, a circle drive slip clutch, optional autoshift, optional 12-volt power port and made the oil filter more accessible, beginning with 1AL00408.
In 1998 variable horsepower was increased to 165 to 185 FWHP, beginning with 1AL00562. A four-legged spider gear replaced the three-legged spider in the differential along with the single piece-bearing cap to improve the service life of the differential, beginning with 1AL00578.
In 1999 the differential spider gear bearing material was changed from aluminum bronze to manganese bronze to decrease the material transfer from the bearing to the spider leg, beginning with 1AL00714.
In 2000 the lower ripper link was modified to improve its service life, beginning with 1AL00813.
In 2001 Cat modified the fan spider to improve its service life, beginning with 1AL00881. The final drive sun gear shafts were replaced, beginning with 1AL00892.
In 2002 Caterpillar introduced a new unit, with an APN prefix. It has a 3176 electronic engine with air-to-air aftercooling (ATAAC) producing 165 FWHP. It comes standard with a serpetine belt with automatic tensioner, a fuel water separator, enhanced vehicle styling, 500-hour oil change interval, modified remote engine oil drain, on-demand hydraulically driven “pull” fan, inside mounted air dryer, ground level fueling, left hand side centralized service access, sample ports on all systems, ground level coolant check, a “lube-for-life” pump drive shaft, EMS III (electronic monitoring system), automotive-style fuses, electronic throttle, increased cab air flow to the windshield, electronic transmission directional solenoids, and LED stop/turn lights. It is available with three-level variable horsepower.
In 2004 and 2005 a new final drive was added and preload was adjusted, beginning with 1AL01318 and APN00207.
In 2005 a larger transmission filter was added, beginning with APN00775.
In 2006 Cat modified the circle pinion, beginning with APN00753. An AccuGrade ready option became available, beginning with APN00738.
Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 800 Caterpillar 143H motor graders have been produced.
