The Caterpillar 14H motor grader was introduced in 1995 as the replacement for the Caterpillar 14G. It was manufactured in the USA only.

The 14H has a 3306 turbocharged engine producing 215 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It has an eight speeds forward, eight reverse direct drive powershift transmission. It comes standard with a PPPC hydraulic system, integrated engine compartment doors, contour seat, and modified operator station.

The 14H was given a 7WJ serial number prefix.

In 1996 an emission-regulated engine with aftercooling was made standard, beginning with 7WJ00168. Caterpillar added extended life coolant, beginning with 7WJ00337.

In 1997 Cat added nylon plastic drawbar/circle wear inserts, radiator cleanout access covers and new battery boxes, and modified the fuel-sending unit, beginning with 7WJ00475. An optional 12-volt power port and scheduled oil sampling ports were added, and the oil filter was made more accessible, beginning with 7WJ00664.

In 1999 the differential spider gear bearing material was changed from aluminum bronze to manganese bronze to decrease the material transfer from the bearing to the spider leg, beginning with 7WJ01333.

In 2002 Caterpillar introduced a new 14H unit, with an ASE prefix. The new unit has a 3176 electronic engine with air-to-air aftercooling (ATAAC) producing 220 FWHP. It comes standard with a serpetine belt with automatic tensioner, a fuel water separator, enhanced vehicle styling, 500-hour oil change interval, modified remote engine oil drain, on-demand hydraulically driven “pull” fan, inside mounted air dryer, ground level fueling, left hand side centralized service access, sample ports on all systems, ground level coolant check, automotive-style fuses, electronic throttle, increased cab air flow to the windshield, electronic transmission directional solenoids, and LED stop/turn lights. It is also available with two-level variable horsepower.

In 2003 Cat installed a modified parking brake control lever, beginning with 7WJ02254 and ASE00714. Steering accumulators were added, beginning with ASE00819.

In 2006 an AccuGrade ready option became available, beginning with ASE01380. Cat modified the circle pinion, beginning with ASE01577.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 3,400 Caterpillar 14H motor graders have been produced.
