Caterpillar 16 Motor Grader
The 16 has a D343 turbocharged, six-cylinder engine producing 225 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with a 14-foot (4.3 m) moldboard, hydraulic actuated mechanical controls, planetary blade lift and a powershift transmission.
The Cat 16 was given a 49G serial number prefix.
In 1965 Caterpillar added a forkless control box, beginning with 49G00305.
In 1971 a rollover protection system was added, beginning with 49G01392.
Production of 16 ended in 1973; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 16G.
Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 1,400 Caterpillar 16 motor graders have been produced.
