The Caterpillar 211B hydraulic excavator was introduced in 1990 as the replacement for the Caterpillar 211. It was manufactured in Germany only.

The 211B has a Cat 3114 turbocharged engine producing 105 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with a load-sensing hydraulic system, moving undercarriage, and new single main pump. It also has increased lift capacity, digging depth, and reach, created by higher stick and bucket forces.

The 211B was given a 6XG serial number prefix.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 200 Caterpillar 211B hydraulic excavators have been produced.
