The Caterpillar 213B hydraulic excavator was introduced in 1988 as the replacement for the Caterpillar 213. It was manufactured in Germany only.

The 213B has a Cat 3116 engine producing 110 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with larger boom and bucket cylinders, increased implement pressures, a new hydraulic system, modified cab, and thicker boom, stick, and main frame plates.

The 213B was given a 1EJ serial number prefix.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 300 Caterpillar 213B hydraulic excavators have been produced.
