The Caterpillar 219 hydraulic excavator was introduced in 1987. It was manufactured in Belgium only.

The 219 has a Cat 3304 engine producing 130 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with larger boom and bucket cylinders, heavier counterweight, and increased digging forces and implement pressure.

The 219 was given a 5CF serial number prefix.

In 1989 Caterpillar redesigned the one-piece boom for improved durability, modified the boom tower, and added a larger boom upper frame pin, beginning with 5CF00731.

Production of 219 ended in 1989; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 219D.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 1,100 Caterpillar 219 hydraulic excavators have been produced.
