[edit] Modifications
In 1988 Caterpillar modified swing performance, increased swing circuit pressure, and added a variable displacement swing pump, swing monitor, and a gear-type pilot pump, beginning with 5AF00267.
In 1989 Cat added larger bearings and a 245-type coupling in the pump drive, beginning with 2PG00535, 4DG00405, 3WG00149, and 5AF00687.
In 1990 a fuel level gauge was added to the Belgium units, beginning with 2PG00583. A Euro-cab was introduced, the heater and defroster were modified, sound level was reduced, the disconnect switch was relocated, and Cat added a polycarbonate skylight, a Bostrom Viking seat, parallel action windshield wipers, sliding rear and cab door windows, and radio and speaker mounts, beginning with 2PG00679 and 4DG00561.
Production of 235C ended in 1992; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 235D.
Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 3,700 Caterpillar 235C hydraulic excavators/front shovels have been produced.
