The Caterpillar 252 skid steer loader was introduced in 2001. It was manufactured in the USA only.

The 252 has a 3034 naturally aspirated, four-cylinder engine producing 59 net horsepower (HP). It comes standard with a vertical lift path and hydraulic pump that delivers 20 gallons (75.8 L) per minute (GPM) at a system pressure of 3,300 pounds per square inch (PSI) (22,737 kPa).

The 252 was given a FDG serial number prefix.

Production of 252 ended in 2004; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 252B.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 900 Caterpillar 252 skid steer loaders have been produced.
