The Caterpillar 301.8C mini excavator was introduced in 2000. It was manufactured in England only.

The 301.8C has a Mitsubishi L3E naturally-aspirated, water-cooled, three-cylinder engine. It comes standard with rubber tracks. It is available with a cab or canopy.

The 301.8C was given a BFA serial number prefix.

Production of BFA ended in 2005; it was replaced by a new unit, with a JSB prefix.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 3,800 Caterpillar 301.8C mini excavators have been produced.
