From RitchieWiki
[edit] Features
The 315 has two different engine configurations: Japanese units have a Cat 3046 turbocharged engine, while French units have a Cat 3054 turbo engine. Both produce 99 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with a variable flow hydraulic system with a work and power mode selector, pilot operated control system, horsepower summation control, high stick and bucket force, and a modified X-shape carbody.
The 315 was manufactured in Japan, with a 4YM, 6XM, or 6YM serial number prefix; and in France, with a 3ZM prefix.
The 6YM unit has a long undercarriage.
Production ended in Japan in 1997; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 315B.
Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 4,200 Caterpillar 315 hydraulic excavators have been produced.
