The 322B has a Cat 3116 turbocharged, after-cooled, diesel engine with an air intake heater producing 153 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with a Rexroth pump, a power and work mode selector with a new user mode, a high level of operator comfort, an integrated seat and console, air conditioner, increased stick and bucket force, modified controllability, and modified serviceability on the ground.
The 322B was manufactured in the USA, with a 1YS serial number prefix; in Japan, with a 3NR, 8MR, 1AS, 5CR, or 9NR prefix; and in Belgium, with a 2ES or 1ZS prefix.
The 1ZS and 1AS units have a heavy-duty upper frame. The 1ZS unit also has a high and wide carbody.
The 1ZS, 2ES, 1AS, 5CR, 8NR, and 1YS units have a long undercarriage.
Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 5,100 Caterpillar 322B hydraulic excavators have been produced.
