The Caterpillar 330 hydraulic excavator was introduced in 1992 in the USA, Japan, and Belgium.

[edit] Features

The 330 has a Cat 3306 turbocharged, after-cooled diesel engine producing 222 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with a variable flow hydraulic system with a power and work mode selector, pilot activated control, horsepower summation control, a high level of operator comfort, large cross-section design for the boom and stick, modified X-shaped carbody, increased stick and bucket pressure, and increased pressure in the travel circuit.

The 330 was manufactured in the USA, with a 2ZM, 5YM, 8FK, or 9WJ serial number prefix; in Japan, with a 6SK, 6WJ, 8RL, 9ML, 9NG, or 9PJ prefix; and in Belgium, with a 2EL, 6ZK, or 8CK prefix.

The 8RL, 2ZM, 6SK, 9ML, and 5YM units have an improved cab. All of them, except 6SK, also have fine swing control.

The 2EL, 6SK, 6WJ, 9ML, 5YM, 8FK, and 8CK units have a long undercarriage.

Production of 6ZK and 8CK ended in 1993.

Production of 9NG, 9WJ, 6WJ, and 8FK ended in 1994.

Production of 8RL, 9PJ, 2ZM, 2EL, 6SK, 9ML, and 5YM ended in 1996.

The 330 was replaced by the Caterpillar 330B.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 9,000 Caterpillar 330 hydraulic excavators have been produced.
