The 825B has a D343 turbocharged, six-cylinder engine producing 300 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It has a powershift transmission and electric start. It comes standard with articulated steering, four-wheel drive, and compactor wheels.
The 825B was given a 43N serial number prefix.

In 1972 Caterpillar added a rollover protection system, beginning with 43N00700. Cat also added bolt-on tips, beginning with 43N00735.
Production of 825B ended in 1978; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 825C.
Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 1,400 Caterpillar 825B compactors have been produced.
