The Caterpillar 826B compactor was introduced in 1971. It was manufactured in the USA only.

The 826B has a D343 turbocharged, after-cooled engine producing 310 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It has a powershift transmission with electric start. It comes standard with four-wheel drive, rollover protection system, and chopper wheels.

The 826B was given a 58U serial number prefix.

In 1972 Caterpillar modified the chopper wheels, beginning with 58U00139.

Production of 826B ended in 1978; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 826C.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 1,500 Caterpillar 826B compactors have been produced.
