The 908 has a Cat 3054 four-cylinder engine producing 80 horsepower (HP). It is an articulated vehicle with an operating weight of 13,228 pounds (6,000 kg). It comes standard with hydrostatic drive, a pre-combustion chamber, and quicklock coupler.

The 908 was manufactured in England with an 8BS serial number prefix.

In 2003, Caterpillar introduced a new 908 unit, with a TAR prefix.

Production of 8BS ended in 2004.
