The Caterpillar 914G wheel loader was introduced in 1995 in England. Production began in Japan a year later.

The 914G has a 3054 direct injection turbo, four-cylinder traverse mounted engine producing 90 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with pilot-controlled implements, static tipping load, increased breakout force, modified articulation angle, and two-door G-series cab.

It is available with a Hystat drive standard transmission or Hystat drive fast travel (FT) transmission.

The 914G was manufactured with a Hystat drive standard transmission in England, with a 7ZM serial number prefix. It was manufactured with a Hystat drive FT transmission in England, with a 9WM prefix.

Units manufactured in Japan were given a 2NN prefix.

Production of 2NN ended in 1996.

Production of 7ZM ended in 1999.

In 2003, Caterpillar introduced a new 914G unit in England, with a PDF prefix.

Production of 9WM ended in 2004.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 3,300 Caterpillar 914G wheel loaders have been produced.
