Caterpillar 963 Crawler Loader
The 963 has a 3304 direct injection turbocharged, four-cylinder engine producing 150 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It has a hydrostatic transmission. It comes standard with an electronic monitoring system, sealed and lubricated tracks, a Z-bar linkage, 72.8-inch (185-cm) track gauge, and 17.7-in (45-cm) track shoes.
The 963 was manufactured in the USA, with a 06Z or 11Z; in Japan, with a 29S or 48Z prefix; and in France, with an 18Z or 21Z prefix.
The 48Z and 11Z are Low Ground Pressure units.
In 1985 the undercarriage was modified, beginning with 18Z01353, 21Z00319, 29S01127, and 48Z00186. Cat added a single section implement pump and a dual setting relief valve, beginning with 18Z01337, 21Z00306, 29S01168, 48Z00199, 06Z01520, and 11Z00680.
Production ended in the USA in 1985.
Production of 18Z ended in 1986.
In 1987 and 1988 a new implement pumping and torque rise setting was added, beginning with 21Z01403, 29S01211, and 48Z00232.
In 1989 Cat added a horizontal hydrostatic filler base, beginning with 21Z02751.
In 1990 the track roller frame was changed and the equalizer bar was shortened, beginning with 21Z03442.
Production ended in France in 1995.
Production ended in Japan in 1996.
