Caterpillar 980B Wheel Loader
The 980B has a D333 turbocharged/after-cooled, six-cylinder engine producing 260 flywheel horsepower. It has powershift transmission and four wheel drive. It comes standard with air brakes, an electric start, and 130-inch (330-cm) wheelbase.
The 980B was given an 89P serial number prefix.
In 1970 Caterpillar added a sealed loader linkage, beginning with 89P00906.
In 1972 a rollover protection system (ROPS) was added, beginning with 89P01879.
In 1974 Cat added a sleeve-metering fuel system (SMFS), beginning with 89P03495.
In 1976 flow-amplified steering was added, beginning with 89P05075.
Production of 980B ended in 1978.
The Caterpillar 980B was replaced by the Caterpillar 980C.
