A clamshell bucket is a two-sided bucket mounted on heavy equipment, such as a hydraulic excavator or crane. It is attached by a hangar or bracket and uses specially designed teeth on its cutting edge to dig in a vertical direction.^[1] When the bucket is raised, the two sides close in, producing a movement known as the clamshell grab. When the bucket is lowered, the two sides open and release the materials contained in its grasp. ^[2]

Manufacturers such as Mack and Atlas produce clamshell buckets for heavy equipment.
