[edit] History
Hypac was formed when Union Dominion Industries (a parent company of BOMAG) decided to purchase the Construction Equipment division of Hyster in 1990. Subsequently, the name was changed to Hypac. BOMAG and Hypac were merged so that one unit could boast of a wide range of construction equipment to manufacture and distribute. At the time of the merge, BOMAG did not comprise static rollers and Hypac did not have smaller asphalt tandem rollers, so the joining of the two companies meant more products.
[edit] The Hypac C810C Series
The C810 was produced for compacting in a variety of construction applications that have different compaction needs for a variety of soil types. It contains single drum rollers and two amplitudes for “optimized frequency”.
The C815C, however, was designed with granular soil compaction in mind. The C812C has a leveling blade that can adapt to “cohesive and semi-cohesive soils”. The C812C and C815C have drum widths of 47.2 inches (120 cm) and can weigh between 7,275 to 8,047 pounds (3,299 to 3,650 kg).[2]
Hypac has stepped up their C778B (with a 78-inch (198-cm) drum) and C766C (66-inch (168-cm) drum) double-drum vibratory compactors by increasing the vibration frequency to 3,800 vibrations per minute. The C778B can produce 37,099 pounds (16,827 kg) of force while the C766C can produce 32,950, an increase of 19 percent and 10 percent respectively. Both compactors can work at the speed of 4.3 miles (6.9 km) per hour and can cover more surface area with great efficiency.
Other features of the C778B and the C766C are the asphalt temperature sensing system, a component that measures the asphalt’s temperature; as well as a better controls positioning; a multi-system performance indicator; turbo-charged 125 horsepower Cummins diesel engines, and hydrostatic drive.[3]
[edit] The Company Today
Hypac continues to manufacture compaction and other construction equipment at its headquarters in Kewanee, Illinois. Currently the company supplies equipment all North and South America, as well as Australia.
