The roots of Sumitomo Construction Machinery Co. Ltd. go back to 1963, with the formation of Sumitomo Machinery Co. Ltd. The following year, the company started to produce excavators.[3]
In 2002 Sumitomo Machinery Co. Ltd was split into four subsidiaries: Sumitomo Construction Machinery Co. Ltd., Sumitomo Construction Machinery Sales Co. Ltd., Sumitomo Construction Machinery Manufacturing Co. Ltd., and Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane Co. Ltd.[4]
A Chinese subsidiary, SUMIJU SCE (Xiamen) Construction Machinery Co. Ltd., was formed in 2003.[5]

Today, Sumitomo Construction Machinery Co. Ltd. has capacity to sell approximately 11,000 hydraulic extractors and 240 asphalt finishers per year.[6]
Sumitomo products are distributed all over the world: Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America (under the brand name Link-Belt).[7]
