Sunward was established in July of 1999, under the name Changsha Sunward Construction Machinery Co., Ltd.[2] A year-and-a-half later, in January 2001, the company was restructured and took their current name, Hunan Sunward Intelligent Machinery Co., Ltd.[3] In December 2006, Sunward was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange under the ticker code 002097.[4][5]

Sunward owns two industrial parks in China’s Hunan province, covering 169,000 square feet (15,700 m2) and 144,000 ft2 (13,300 m2) respectively, where Sunward bases their operations.[6] Sunward has upwards of 1,700 employees.[7] Sunward’s sales in 2008 were US$205 million (RMD 1.4 billion).[8] Sunward products are sold in Europe, Australia, North America, and South East Asia.[9] Exports account for approximately 20 percent of Sunward’s revenues.[10]
