[edit] History
Takeuchi was founded in 1963 by current president and representative director, Akio Takeuchi.[3]
In 1971 Takeuchi produced the world’s first compact excavator. At the time, the machine was dismissed by competition as toy-like, but quickly gained popularity due to its flexible manuevering. In 1986 Takeuchi had another world’s first when it launched a track loader capable of navigating rough terrain. [4]
[edit] The Company Today
Today, Takeuchi sells over 20,000 units per year.[5] For the fiscal year ended February 2008, Takeuchi had revenues of ¥76,046 million (US$765.5 million as of April 16, 2009).
Takeuchi has four foreign subsidiaries. The company expanded into the United States in 1979; the United Kingdom in 1996; France in 2000; and China in 2006.[6]
On April 16, 2009, Toyota Tsusho Corp. purchased US$6.24million of Takeuchi's stock, becoming the company's second-largest shareholder with 6.99 percent of shares.[7]
