Hi Zakia,

I'm not exactly sure what the positive effects of selective cutting are on the economy as a whole. However, some of the economics benefits of selective cutting and shelterwood cutting a forest stand can be a more abundant supply of wood, a better quality of wood product and an earlier harvest. Both methods aim to improve not only the quality of trees within a stand, but the quantity of trees. One of the primary goals of tree improvement programs such as selective and shelterwood cutting is increased wood production. Please read through the following report prepared by the Forest Genetics Council of BC on the Benefits of Using Selected Reforestation Materials. It may provide you with some insight into your question. I hope this helps.
