A cutting torch is an oxygen/acetylene torch used in welding, construction, and demolition for cutting steel. The acetylene gas combusts when lit and heats the steel until it is molten. With the addition of a pressurized stream of oxygen, the steel lights on fire and burns away along the line of the cut. Steel and carbon steel are the only metals that can be cut with a cutting torch. The process of cutting steel in this manner is referred to as "burning" steel.^[1]
