From RitchieWiki

(Redirected from turret truck)

A turret truck is a type of lift truck designed to operate in very narrow aisles (VNA), around six feet (1.8 m) wide.[1] It is a common fixture in both industrial and commercial warehousing applications such as manufacturing plants, processing facilities, and assembly line production.

[edit] Features/How it Works

Turret trucks function very similarly to order selectors but instead of having fixed forks, its forks are mounted on a mast and carriage that operates on a turret able to rotate 90 degrees in either direction to facilitate picking and stocking on either side of the aisle. A turret truck is able to rotate for sideloading, but not for stacking. In this way it is very similar to a sideloader, except with a longer truck body that increases its counterbalance capability and provides ample space for the operator to sit.

[edit] Types

There are two types of turret truck. With a man-up turret truck, the operator is lifted up with the load. This type of turret truck usually works well in aisle widths from five to seven feet (1.5 to 2.1 m)[2] and is suitable for handling loads in very tall racking storage of up to 40 feet (12.2 m).[3]

A man-down turret truck is just the opposite, with the operator remaining on the ground as the load gets lifted up. A man-down turret truck usually operates within an aisle width of five to six feet (1.5 to 1.8 m)[4] with racking heights reaching 30 feet (9.1 m) or less.[5]
