The 302.5 has a Cat 3013 three-cylinder engine producing 22 horsepower. It has an operating weight of 5,291 pounds (2,400 kg). It comes standard with a pre-combustion chamber and rubber tracks.

The 302.5 was given a 4AZ serial number prefix.

Production of 302.5 ended in 2005; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 302.5C
