The Caterpillar E70B midi excavator was introduced in 1989 in Japan. Production began in France in 1992.

The E70B has a Mitsubishi 4D32 engine producing 54 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with a variable flow hydraulic system with a power and work mode selector, pilot activated controls, straight-line travel, and an H-shaped carbody.

The E70B was manufactured in Japan, with a 5TG or 7YF serial number prefix; and in France, with a 6AK prefix.

Production of 6AK and 7YF ended in 1994; 5TG ended in 1996.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 8,900 Caterpillar E70B midi excavators have been produced.
